Recently, an all out assault has been initiated by atheists Nicholas Krauss and Bill Nye with a goal to shame parents who teach their children that God created everything. These men boldly state that if you teach your children the biblical narrative that God created the universe – space, stars, planets, the world, life, light, and all we see – this is akin to child abuse. Athiests like Krauss and Nye operate from a presupposition that God does not exist. Because of this presupposition, their framework for understanding the universe has to eliminate the possibility of any kind of supernatural intelligence. They believe that everything we see arose, by random chance, out of absolutely nothing, with no guiding intelligence or organizational schema. No meaning, no purpose…nothing.
Nothing. Even the concept of nothing has been redefined to fit this presuppositional worldview. According to Krauss, in a video posted on YouTube, science has taught us “Empty space is, in fact, not empty at all, but a quite complicated boiling brew of virtual particles.” Without explaining where these “nothing” particles came from, he goes from assertion to assertion, eventually making this arrogant claim: “Forget Jesus. The stars died so you could be born.”
So, Krauss has placed himself, and his god science, above Jesus. When viewing the video referenced above, Krauss makes many assumptive claims…like laws of physics are not immutable because they could be different in different universes. This tiny little pompous man spouts off with such confidence that the laws of physics could be accidents, and that different universes quite possibly exist! Where does he get his authority? He gets it from a system he (and other atheistic scientists) have created where they build one assumption upon another, upon another, and upon another all based upon their foundational “faith” worldview that God does not exist. And to make sure this philosophical worldview is above questioning, he calls it “science.”
Jesus vs. Krauss. Few people, even athiests, deny that a historical Jesus lived and walked on this earth. In the video, Krauss even says as much when, just before the “Forget Jesus” line, he states that “these questions (about the concept of nothingness) are not the same as they were 2000 years ago.” The reference to 2000 years sets the stage for his dismissive statement about Jesus.
The thing about Jesus that puts Him in a league all together different from atheistic scientists is that Jesus rose from the dead. Of course, an athiest will laugh at the idea that anyone could die (especially after the horrible, tortuous death suffered by Jesus) and come back to life. But the evidence that this happened is as strong, or stronger, that any other historical event in ancient history (I discuss this in more detail in another blog entry). Because of this, Jesus has the absolute authority to teach us about matters of life, death, and the origin of the universe. Paul says as much in the first chapter of Colossians:
He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
(Colossians 1:15-17 ESV)
There is nothing about true science that is incompatible with scripture. In fact, modern science first flourished under a Christian world view. Creationists (people who believe that a supernatural being created the universe) have contributed so much to modern science that Krauss could not even begin to make his arrogant claims without invoking the findings of these people of faith. Read more about present and past creationsits who were/are also distinguished scientists by clicking here.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
(Romans 1:18-20 ESV)
Without excuse. Everyone will answer to the Almighty Creator regarding their beliefs about His creation. And instead of forgetting Jesus, after bowing their knee, they will beg for His mercy.
